LAS VEGAS -- Some of Clark County's newest teachers are getting prepared to greet their students next Monday when school starts.
The teachers are shopping at the Teacher Exchange for their back to school supplies. The supplies are donated so teachers can head into the classroom well prepared without having to pay out of their own pockets.
"I've been out of teaching for four years. I've actually been teaching teachers. I really realized I miss the kids, so I wanted to come back into the profession and work with students again," said Jennifer Chambers, who is a new science teacher.
Chambers moved to Las Vegas two weeks ago to begin teaching at Mojave High School. CCSD has hired 400 new teachers for this school year. While some of the teachers came from out of state, many were hired locally.
"I expected to start as a long-term sub this year, so I'm thrilled to have a classroom with my name on the door. I'm very excited," said Kim Kohut, new 2nd grade teacher at Roundy Elementary School.
It's estimated that CCSD teachers spend $1,600 of their own money a year on school supplies. The Teacher Exchange helps offset that cost by allowing teachers to come in anytime to get free supplies. The Teacher Exchange will run from noon to 4 p.m. through the rest of the week.
